  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/2 cup milk (any kind)
  • 1 tsp milk (for top)
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (or vegan butter)
  • 1 tbsp maple syrup
  • 1/2 tsp pure vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, spices, sea salt, and sugar.
  3. Cut in cold butter until the mixture resembles small peas.
  4. Stir in molasses and milk until just combined; avoid overmixing.
  5. Shape the dough into a circle about 3/4 inch thick on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Brush with milk and sprinkle sugar on top.
  7. Cut into wedges and bake for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
  8. Optional: Prepare icing by whisking powdered sugar, melted butter, maple syrup, and vanilla extract.
